About

About Plain Jane Designers

A quiet, independent journal about living with less — and living better for it.

Plain Jane Designers began, a long time ago, from a simple frustration: most design writing is really shopping writing. Endless lists of things to buy, dressed up as inspiration. We wanted the opposite — a place that helps you want less, not more.

Everything here comes back to one idea: own less, choose better, live lighter. A home with fewer, well-made things is calmer to live in, cheaper to keep, and gentler on the planet. Minimalism and sustainability aren't two topics to us — they're the same instinct seen from two angles.

What we write about

Practical, unhurried notes on minimalist home design, sustainable everyday habits, and making small spaces work. No sponsored hauls, no gadget of the week — just what we've found actually helps a home feel lighter.

The best-designed room is the one you can breathe in. That's the whole brief.

Our approach

We test ideas in real homes — small flats, shared spaces, places with too little storage and too much stuff — before we write them down. If a tip only works in a magazine photoshoot, it doesn't make the page.

Thanks for reading. Take one idea, try it this week, and let the rest go.
